If you cross your eyes so as to make 3 images, you’ll perceive all three as the same image (i.e., the right one no longer leans.

The towers IS a fraud. They are different pictures in the same way those 3d pics were, that have been mentioned.

Smilei, you said that was the way it was intended, but it's not. The REASON that picture won this contest is because it's supposed to be the same exact picture.

The fourth one works because when the background is white, the white parts of the line disapear, and when the background is black, the black parts of the line disapear, giving it the illusion that the line moves when really its just the visibility that changes

the first one is awesome. takes a while to get it but i must say, thats probably the best illusion ive seen so far.

In the brain illusion, all you need to do is stare at it with your eyes out of focus. As the background color changes, the brains will appear to “wiggle” or move, due to the eye’s reaction to the contrast between the pixellation of each image of the brain with the background.

fraud? lol.
The 3D effect is enhanced by slightly dissimilar images, it was made that way.
The second is as others has posted – looks like the brains move.
3rd – i missed the third.
4th – moving lines :).
5th looks like the lines are changing shade but they are not, only the background is. Also it has the black dot illusion on the intersects of the lines.

To the poster who said the "towers" illusion was a fraud: It's not.

A simple proof that is not is to take *either* tower image, copy it, and put it next to its original. You get the same effect.

The two towers are a trick, as in, a fraud. They are slightly different images. I compared them in Photoshop using a difference filter and they are not the same image. Try it yourself if you don’t believe me.

the two towers are same as the 3d stereo pictures that you used to get in the late 80′s early 90′s. if you cross your eyes slightly til you get a third image in the middle, the middle image appears in 3D due to your brain overlaying the images. i still think its cool though
