Look carefully, there is a slingshot-shaped tree in the middle of the photo. Can you see it? Probably you’ll manage, but you’ll need few seconds to find it. I can’t believe how well nature camouflaged it. It really fits well into background, like it has chameleon’s capability to adjust tone of the skin color. What I liked here is the simplicity, and idea how illusions can be found almost anywhere around you – you just have to have a good eye to spot them. If you find similar cool photos somewhere in your collection, be sure to send them in, and if they are good enough, I’ll post them on Mighty Optical Illusions homepage. Enjoy!

  9. pancake says:

now you should take a picture of some rocks and say, “hey look the rocks are blending in with the rocks.”

  10. Peter says:

I don’t think that nature camouflaged the tree, more that the same lichen colonised the tree and the rocks behind it.

  11. Jesse says:

yeah, thats ok… but, i see them all the time… they’re like, everywhere…

  12. Anonymous says:

i know how hard it is to come up with an illusion every day, but i’m really dissapointed. Not really an illusion

  13. Schaianne says:

  16. JMLD says:

Terrible! Not worth the pixels it occupies!

  17. Can says:

I saw it as a tree, I didn’t think that it was a part of the background.
But, I can see where someone can make that mistake.
It’s still a decent picture, though.

  18. Anonymous says:

    wat is it?

  19. Bill says:

not really an illusion…it is real!

and is caused by the same vegetation growing on the rocks and tree

by that measure painting a radiator the same colour as the wall it is fixed on would be an illusion

  20. Elliexx ANIMALS ROCK!! Abi xx's friend says:

pretty kl, but i could spot the tree straight away.

  26. Anonymous says:

that’s pretty cool. I like it, your right it’s not obvious at first.

  27. Anonymous says:

cool bbut not that good illusiion.. haha
    its ok i guess

  28. Anonymous says:

It is cool because this is nature at its best. No human force or ability has made this tree camouflaged the way it is. You have to appreciate that. It may not be an illusion its more of a spot the object kind of thing. BTW i luv ur site.

  29. Jon says:

Well, that’s just stupid. This isn’t camouflage; we’re seeing the same thing. The tree is covered in the same lichens as the stone behind it.

This may (arguably) be an illusion because at first glance the tree may be hard to spot, but it certainly isn’t camouflage.

  30. Amuseal says:

  38. caspadaghost says:

hey you guys kiddin me that’s all you’s see.
As soon as i saw i saw the shape of an elephant.
Not a fully distinctive one but if you look at the top right hand side of the tree you can imagine it as the trunk up in the air…

I see alot in things hahah

    -Casper.
    Cheers..

  39. Blurr says:

I find it amusing that the two people that didn’t care about getting the first comment got it before the people who did care.

  40. Daniel says:

yea tree is visible but still blends into the background but i dont see how its to the tree advantage to camouflage itself.. it has no predators unless it wants animals to run into it for fun!

  41. Anonymous says:

u whiners just appreciate what the person posts … nice pic btw!

  42. Anonymous says:

    Yea! 6th post! I rock!!!

  43. Coop says:

I saw it after I read the paragraph, I think it’s pretty cool, because it’s a natural optical illusion!

  44. Anonymous says:

  49. someone says:

Wait, I see a leg! A mans leg!

  50. me says:

an illusion is something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. so if you werent decieved it doesnt mean its not an illusion because others may have been.

  51. Lollipop says:
