It was obviously saved as a jpg, and if you look closely at the lines, you can see where they shift and become UNstraight. The first pic, although a good "illusion" does NOT have straight lines. It's the big light squares that are the ones to look closer at.<br/><br/>Notice how the light squares seem slightly slanted due to the small white squares "pulling" each corner in some direction. In effect each corner is pulled clockwise in the upper left quadrant and bottom right quadrant, and counter-clockwise in the upper right and lower left quadrants.<br/><br/>As far as I can see, this is what makes this illusion work. Actually it’s not due to the shape of the little white diamonds. It’s the big light squares that are the ones to look closer at.

Notice how the light squares seem slightly slanted due to the small white squares “pulling” each corner in some direction. In effect each corner is pulled clockwise in the upper left quadrant and bottom right quadrant, and counter-clockwise in the upper right and lower left quadrants.

As far as I can see, this is what makes this illusion work.
