A reader sent me this photo almost two months ago. It’s improved version of Sharp Dual-view TV. Even earlier, about year ago I posted the original illusion, not knowing it was not an illusion at all! It’s some new hi-tech gadget you can actually buy. Boy, we had some debate back then. Just to make it clean, this photo below isn’t illusion as well, but pictures TV set that shows three programs at the same time. It just depends from which angle you are starring at it. Neat idea, enabling your wife to watch Oprah, while there’s some wrestling or SuperBowl game you can’t miss. The only problem would be that you can’t sit very close to each other while viewing it… sometimes though, little privacy can be good. As I finish writing this I realize it could maybe be a monitor, picture screen, and not TV at all. Help me decide by commenting.

These are not mirrors but only wooden frames. Seeing the two black dots on the base of the left frame, may seem reflection but the overall thickness of the wooden frame there is same as on the opposite side of the same frame. There are actually three picture frames, with three different pictures, the two corner ones being kept behind two blank wooden frames.

It’s no illusion at all. If you don’t know the product you might think those were two empty frames with two additional TFTs. It’s not!
This is a small dual or even triple view TFT from Acer I think. It will be used in cars e.g. (the drivers can see navigation infos, the co-driver can watch a movie), it will be used in banks for showing public and internal information.
What you see on this display depends from the angle you look at this display.

this is not what the paragraph claims. Look at the edge of the picture frame in the “mirror”. The white space goes all the down to where the table really is. Those are not mirrors, but empty picture frames.
Those are not reflections, but other pictures on the table.
I’ve seen this in person it’s really cool (monitor by the way) cool, but you have to sit perfectly still while looking at it or go blind from the three images crossing, the angles are essential so eventualy this will be an awesome piece of tech. but right now it’s still just an idea. :)

Actually I believe its meant more for in car use, so the driver can see the GPS screen whilst the passenger can watch something else and the kids in back get the straight on view of some third program. Hope that helps.

It is rather obvious how it was done, the angle of the mirrors give away the fact that they are reflecting something other than the dog picture
Mmm…, makes me remember those lovely wavy plastic stickers, that refracted separate images to different directions as you rotated them. I guess it’s the XXI century version of the old good stickers, sticked to a multi-columned multi-image screen.

Judging by what’s shown (2 still-looking photos and a map) I’d guess it’s a monitor… but then again it’s a rather small looking screen to hook up to a PC. Perhaps a media addon? I suppose it’d have it’s uses…

looks to me like it’s an LCD pictureframe type device.
I bet it works on 802.11 or bluetooth to stream like it’s a media center extender or location free player.

Everyone is right!!! It is an actual product that is being developed right now. Go search youtube and you can see one in action.
I have a feeling this was created in an image editing program to convey what the product does. I agree with the comment that the white space leading down to the table would not match the actual horizontal line of the table if these were truly mirrors. The manufacturer is just showing the possibility this product has to offer.

It isn’t even frames, it is a photoshopped image. The angle of the monitors in the mirrors is all wrong. Someone tried to photoshop this illusion and did so – badly.
I am not saying this technology isn’t possible, just that as far as I can tell, it was not used to create this image.
Also, I have to point out another way you can tell the image is photoshopped. The pixellation on the images in the mirrors is different than that of the image as a whole. Also, the designer didn’t bother to add refelctions under the side monitors. They are just floating on the grey. Very shoddy work.

I reckon they are digital frames. I have one, and it looks alot like those. I think the idea is real, but someone said something that would be a flaw in the product if they made it. yea sure you can see it, but what about hearing it? That might be necessary. Unless…………

Guys, read everything and look closely at the image. The mirror on the left is clearly reflecting the wood grain, in addition to the knot. The angles of the reflections are perfect. The idea that you can see pixelation to suggest photoshop in a 400×241 image is just ridiculous.
As was stated, this was developed for cars, not home televisions. GPS on one view and a movie on another view does not require two separate sound sources. If it was developed into a home TV (which is highly unlikely), then headphones could be used.
I believe if they couldnt see that is was to empty frams with three devises then WOW!!!!
