They did use a flash for the first part, the girl in the first zero is the same girl by the seven. That's just when the flash off the first time and then it when off again when she finished. You can actually control the flash when it goes off. It takes a bit of practice before you can actually do it right though. It’s called BULB exposure. The most famous photo like this one is the one that Xhon Mili (Albanian photographer) did with picasso doing this kind of drawing in it.
