I think the pupils apperture is involved in this effect since the center seems more bright. If a keep the eyes fixed to some point nothing happens, but if i keep the eyes 100% fixed for some kind of time (this requires some training) a nice effect occurs: the corners became black with a cyan beam at the center and, in a second, the whole image become gray.
