Friend of mine emailed me this cool picture! You may ask what’s so cool about it, thats what logically follows. I suggest you try figuring out yourself what is the illusion here, but if you are lazy continue reading this post :) This illusion is another example of this. Believe it or not, all diamonds in this picture are of the same color! It’s true! Jump inside this post to see the proof. After you’ve finished, check another few examples here: candy stripes, which color is darker, gray squares… and then take the color blindness test! More similar illusions can be found in color adapting category.

  8. Anonymous says:

first post, but anyways, it looks like the picture wiggles or something

  9. Cheshire Kitty says:

Amazing, how fallible the human mind is, not to notice these discrepancies at first!

  10. Anonymous says:

    That’s unbeleivable

  11. Mike says:

This is on ethat;s hard to believe.

    First First Yay Yay!!
I digs that! The diamonds only look differant colours because of the way the cubes are shaded and that is the illusion. Think about it I got that and I’m 11.

  13. cool cat says:

Oh… I still dont det how they are the same color. Can someone explain it to me?

  14. cool cat says:

If you scroll up and down, they look like dancing or something

  15. Anonymous says:

the diamonds are the same color- that’s the effect. it’s a pretty good one, i must say. until the follow up pictures, i didn’t quite believe it.

but what i really can’t believe is how could you people could NOT get the effect? even if you can’t figure out by looking at it, which is somewhat understandable, don’t you read? it explains it all in the post. you know, that little paragraph of text above the picture? that’s there for a reason. Vurdlak wasn’t writing it for his/her health. he/she was helping you morons out.

  16. niki says:

How can u explain two things r the same color? u have u show it. Which the web person already did! Duh, didn’t u even look at both pictures before posting?

  17. Anonymous says:

is it just me or do the stripes look like they’redifferent shades of gray in differerent places?

  18. ryan says:

its the faded scales of grey in the vertical faces of the cubes that make the diamonds appear darker or lighter than they really are

  19. Anonymous says:

    Dude, it hurts my brain..
    and mine too (another person)

  20. Anonymous says:

I still didn’t believe it after seeing the gray lines, which appeared to me to change shades. So I pasted the picture into Paint, and copied/pasted small rectangles from two “different” diamonds onto a white background, any by golly they are actually the exact same shade of grey!
    This one really amazes me…

  21. Anonymous says:

Try print them on paper and bend the paper then you will see that they dont have the same colour.
A better and correct example of such an illusion can be found at http://www.moillusions.com/2006/03/colored-squares-illusion.html

  22. Anonymous says:

What??? How can that be??? Is it the shading or something?

  23. Anonymous says:

Anonynous poster #7, I agree with you, the stripes do seem to change colour, though I have checked through Paint, and they are the same colour, all the way through, if your look close enough.

  24. superlyssa says:

wow that is so cool! how do they do that?

  25. oscar says:

Great! Whatever the explanation is (shading, grays around…), it’s incredible!
And agreeing with Cheshire Kitty above: What’s wrong with our visual cortex algorithm to fall in this trap???!!! Do we all human beings share this oddity? Seems so. Do other animals share it too?
    Thnx for this jewel.

  26. Anonymous says:

okay.. when i saw the stripes (or linies) i was like.. oh wow ! i get it.. thats creepy.. buttt.. i kept looking.. && on some of the parts on the lines, it turns slightly darker.. the crazy background jsut draws you away from noticing that. soo.. ha.. i got you. its not the same. nice try though.

  27. Anonymous says:

    i dont get it!

  28. Anonymous says:

if you move further away from the screen, youll see the picture like in a 3-D-ish wave

  29. Anonymous says:

WOw, open it in paint and try the colour thing where it picks the colour you pick and pick the centre of the square…wow…

  30. steeljam says:

I came across these illusions after having problems editing photgraphs and trying to match colours.
The thing I found fascinating is that when you draw the grey line it itself appears not to be the same colour.

  31. Anonymous says:

if you cross your eyes a little on the first one it turns to waves

  32. Anonymous says:

the first piCture cOuld gO on bent Lines category.
(the Capaital letters spell a word

  33. Anonymous says:

    no-no-no this is to amazing

  34. Anonymous says:

when you scroll up and down thepage it looks like the blocs wiggle o_O

  35. Anonymous says:

    Ok I’m not sure BUT
THE STRIPS LOOK LIKE DIFFERENT COLOURS!!! Is that not cheating?
Look! Top’s light, next parts dark, so on! or are my eyes screwed?

  36. volans21 says:

This is a great example of a perceptual phenomenon known as color constancy. Wikipedia has a great article on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_constancy

  37. Leigh Heagney says:

make you wonder if anything is what it seems to be I feel pretty sure its not why are we human all fooling ourselves?

  38. Sunny says:

But there’s a gradient on some squares… Nevertheless, pretty cool.

  39. Tony Patriarche says:

I have seen several examples of this illusion, and this is the *best*!

    “whatever reality is, anyhow…”
    Thanks,
    TP

  40. Grace says:

If you scroll up & down it will move!!!!

  41. Joseph Aryan says:

    There is no illusion here.
The stripe in the second pic changes shades of Grey.
Jesus Christ, this proves how stupid most people are.

  42. Anonymous says:

They are not the same colour, the lines connecting them in the second picture have gardient, they slowly turn light and darker within the tiny pixels so you dont notice where the lighter and darker diamonds are.

  43. Dude says:

    Copy the photo into paint.

Take the eraser and erase the lighter diamond.

    It will magicaly appear darker.

This is no trick, it is 100% in fact an illusion.. and a very perfect one.

  44. Dude says:

Erase the outside of the lighter diamond

  45. Ross Hill says:

Blur your eyes and they look like waves. Cool!
