User called Ludo submitted this photo illusions. They were all done by Philippe Ramette, and you can see full collection if you jump inside this article. At first they seemed photshoped, but after few minutes I understood how he made them. Can you guess? Here’s what Ludo wrote: “Hi! Here’s the art gallery of Philippe Ramette, french photographer. He does a wonderfull job, creating a world of illusion.” For more photo art see flickr category: magic torches, painted stairs, model world by Olivo Barbieri, painted trucks, crop circles

woot. first response? anyway, have no idea bout the underwater ones but the ones with the rope must have been done with a solid unflexible material. not done from the ceiling or somfin else.

  2. DooPoo says:

My dog craps out better illusions, and he dosen’t even use Photoshop!

  3. superkewl says:

wow i don’t know how he did it but it’s really cool.

  4. Anonymous says:

I feel liek the second one looks liek it could b a model person, but i m guessing that’s not it… the 7th one is easy though, he’s just standing on a really shallow rock, my friends and I have done that b4

  5. Anonymous says:

the first pic: if u rotate it, the man in the suit is just standing on a slight slant

second pic: if you make it larger you can tell that the man actually is leaning on something

    third pic: no clue
    fourh pic: no clue

fifth pic: the rock that the man is on is actually elvated from the water

    6th pic: no clue

7th pic: obviously the water is shalow

all of the other pics, my only guess is that the rope is some sort of pliable metal

-my name is LIELESS, love the website

  6. Anonymous says:

the first one looks like the back leg is fake and is really suporting the person who has bothe legs right next to eachother in front, but that abnoral look may also just be comming from the fact that his cloths hang differently sideways

  7. Dannyy says:

Uh, yeah, I have no idea. o_o They look awesome though.. hahah

  8. jackface!! says:

this are computer pics, they are not seen with your own eye, you can computerize anything these days

  9. Anonymous says:

WOOHOO I POPPES YOUR COMMENT CHERRY!!!!

    uhmm i have no idea

  10. Anonymous says:

I know how you did the underwater ones:
you took some rocks or something took a picture of guy posing on it and you added a underwater backround

  11. Anonymous says:

Why can’t they be done from the ceiling? I’ve seen that before, i don’t see why they can’t. The water though, no idea, at all.

  12. Anonymous says:

3rd one is actually taken from under water where person is floating face down on the surface.

  13. Anonymous says:

hmm… that’s pretty cool, it looks like in the third one tho that the picture was taken underwater and the guy is just laying face down in the water.

    – Josh

  14. Anonymous says:

Wow!!! Thats sooo cool!!! I wonder ho they did that.

  15. Yes says:

The third one just looks like he’s floating near the surface and they took the picture from below.

Most of the rope ones look like it was just hung from the ceiling.

  16. Amanda says:

The third one I think is actually him under water floating on the top and someone took a picture from underneath the water to make it look like he was floating like that.

  17. Anonymous says:

THe first one is a picture of a man using a rope that is tied to the top of the rock to climb it. it is just a sideways picture. u can see the rope if you look really closely

  18. ~Sammie~ says:

    =OO

I think i know how the rope ones are done…

I think the brown is actually the ceiling and the ropes are glued to the ceiling and the chair…

But how would he take the pictures..

    O-O

    Well. That’s my guess.

  19. Bob Dole says:

Aint the one with the chair and the rope obvious? What seems to be the wall is the floor, and what seems to be the floor is actually the wall. I may be wrong, but it must be something like that.

  20. Anonymous says:

third pic is easy. they had the guy lay on inch high water on top on a smooth, clean, reflecive floor.

  21. Anonymous says:

no the third one is taken from underwater….just look closer you can tell

  22. Anonymous says:

    PHOTOSHOP! duhh….are you serious

  23. Anonymous says:

    ok
3rd pic: laying face down in the water and pic was taken from under the water

4th pic: he’s eather pushing him self down on the handle or its photoshoped

6th pic: eather standing on a ladder under water or itts photo shoped

  24. Anonymous says:

i can understand sum of ‘em but the others have me clueless!!!

  25. Anonymous says:

if you turn the fifth picture 90 degrees to the right he will be on a cliff above the water with a rope haning down

  26. Marc says:

I think the first 7 are paintings

  27. ThinkOfTheSea says:

greenscreen maybe? (on the ones with the guy in them)

vurdlak, if you know, can you tell us? pleeeeeeease?

  28. Anonymous says:

Why can’t the guy just be holding his breath. And the rope: I did the same thing by rubbing krazy glue on hemp. It becomes stiff. He probably hung them from the ceiling, rubbed something on the rope then turned it upside down and put it in an art museum.

    don’t worry !

  31. Pirate Pete says:

It seems pretty obvious that the creator of mighty illusions doesnt take photoshopped pics and put them on his site. I think that just becuz some of you cant figure the pictures out, doesn’t mean you need to doubt the truth of them.

  32. Anonymous says:

Well i would just like to know how that they do it.

  33. Foxx says:

    well said, pirate pete.
I think the underwater ones were just taken under water. for the chairs, most likely glue, though I don’t have a clue.
    Really good

  34. Anonymous says:

Aaaargh!! Why does it matter whether pictures on here have been photoshopped or not? Who cares? It is the illusion that counts, and I’m sure Escher would have used PS if he had it available to him!

  35. Anonymous says:

i think this is reali kl n however they du it it dus luk realistic n all i can say is if they can du this on photos jus think i wunder how they make those films eg: all the bond movies cos they must use loadsa special effects so gr8 syt n i luv chekin out new ”ens” thnx xxxxx

  36. omri says:

well, I think that the chair is actually painted on the wall, because there is no shadow of it. some pieces of the rope are also glued to the wall.

very good illusions by the way.

  37. Anonymous says:

hi my name is josh and i think i know how he did the first 1 they just took the pic as he was falling in the water and he just stood that way so i think he was falling as they took the pic and if you could see te next part he would be in the water

  38. me says:

miniature people in models? like little aquarium type things…….it’s definitely stiff rope, because if you look at the last one, if it was hanging from the ceiling, then that little piece wouldnt be hanging in tht direction. and the chair can’t be painted, unless the entire thing is painted.

  39. The Eric says:

I’m betting the chair ones are just as omri said – paintings.

  40. Me says:

is it just me? or do i see a gorilla face (part of rock) on the first picture?

  41. Anonymous says:

it all photoshopped, i could do better!

  42. H.T.Dragon says:

The first one I don’t know about, but maybe he put glue on his feet? That one I’m really curious about…

The second one I think he’s really just underwater. Maybe he’s got weights attached to him? He also is probably hiding an oxygen mask somewhere that he uses to breathe in between shots.

The third one’s obvious: he’s just floating face down in water.

The fourth one is just like the second one, but this one looks like the guy is holding his breath.

The fifth one is a bit confusing…I’d just have to guess that the rope’s made out ofa heavy material so it doesn’t float.

The sixth one is easy, he’s just on a ladder in shallow water.

For the seventh one, he’s probably standing on a rock or a floatation device. Or maybe the concrete structure is bigger than it looks, and he’s just standing on a submerged part of it.

In the rest, I’d guess that the rope is made out of metal and what we see as the floor is really the cieling. I’d also guess the chair was glued to the rope.

  43. ??? says:

i think the fifth one is shot to look like the guy is under water but he is really on a cliff over the water… I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong…

  44. Anonymous says:

Well for me the FIRST one looks like a real person who has good balance. With practice you can stand like that.

The person in the SECOND, FOURTH, FIFTH and SIXTH pictures look like a real guy holding his breath and posing. I think the THIRD one was taken underwater and he is laying face down in the water.

And the SEVENTH one is easy it’s a guy walking on a rock or something that can’t be seen because it is under water if you look closely you can see that the water is a little lighter colored like it is a little shallower.

And on the chair ones what looks like the floor is actually the ceiling and was flipped. The rope is either really mettle that was painted to look like rope or really rope; either idea it was crazy glued to the chair.

  45. Anonymous says:

it’s really simple, the first one is taken as he is falling down and he takes a step to make it look like hes walking up… 2nd looks like hes just pushing himself against the rock to keep himself underwater

3rd- was, as others have said, taken from a strange angle underwater as he was floating face down to make it look like he was face-up

5th by the looks of it he is just holding on to the rock sideways

6th- ladders aren’t buoyant, he is most likely holding himself onto it

7th- he is standing on a rock as can be seen because of the imprint around it

I’m not sure about the chair ones

  46. Birger says:

It’s really simple actually once you think about it, like Vurdlak said….

They’re actually sculptures that he made and positioned to make the picture look obscure…

    read this http://theverychronicles.blogspot.com/2006/08/philippe-ramette.html
    for proof!

  47. Anonymous says:

he’s got some clever way of taking photos and he’s used it on all of them. none of the above

  48. Anonymous says:

you idiots who think its photoshop. dont you read? it says its NOT photoshopped. thats the beauty of it..trying to figure out how it WAS done. jeez.

  49. Anonymous says:

umm its not photoshopped and the rope pic cant be done by celing because wouldnt the rope just slide right through the chair and then the chair would fall???

  50. Ceanne says:

All of the pictures are upside down.

In the chair and string pictures the ceiling is brown.

For the ‘water’ that hasn’t been solved: Filters.

For the chairs: Haven’t any of you ever heard of fishing line?

    • Legion says:

Yeah, I’ve seen people with these in their houses as modern art. It’s a steel reinforced rope. Nice try, though.

  52. Anonymous says:

Ha, the third one is upside down, it looks like he’s just floating in the water

  53. U2freak says:

boy this man has a hard time gettin to work!!!

  54. danny tarade says:

yeah the third one if yu turn it upside down you can tell that he just fell into the water instead of laying on it

  55. Tsquared says:

In some of the rope ones, it looks like the picture was taken from the ceiling and flipped upside down. I’m not sure about the ones in the water.

  56. Anonymous says:

I’m not certain how all of the pictures featuring Philippe Ramette were done, but the chair statues are quite simple. The “rope” that was used in the art are made of bronze. Yes, this is a fact.

  57. Anonymous says:

    Anyone can use photoshop remember?!?!!?

LOL u forget on the third one that if he was just simply lying face down in water his hair would be astrew.

    The Water Images
    how to achieve:

1)Empty a swimming pool so it is absolutely dry.

2)Purchase a large glass panel which is thick enough to hold an inch of water.

3)Place the glass over the empty pool.

4)Cover the top of the glass with and inch of water.

5)Go into dry part of pool with camera man.

    6)TAKE PHOTOS!!!!

Pretty stupid, i want my 20 seconds back!

No, I have never heard of this “Fishing Line”…Whats it used for?

  62. mattjones000 says:

Hey anoymous about the third picture having his hair astrew, He probably has gel in it?
And fishing line is the string they put on fishing rods. It’s Really hard to see and underwater it’s invisible. Thats how fishes get the bait, They dont see the fishing wire and think its normal food

  63. john says:

“And fishing line is the string they put on fishing rods.”

    This just can’t be correct.

  64. cronimson says:

rope is probably made of flexible but hard material most likely metal

water images was already answered by Tom

  65. anonymous says:

well i think the most logical answer to all of these is that he is a magician

  66. anon says:

the first one was just a well timed shot. the man is falling backwards into he water and the photographer took it when he was parallel to the surface. either tha or hes holding a string

  67. anonymous says:

ha its all supid the chairs r from a fishing wire and the water has filters

  68. Deumemoto says:

Why are you all trying to “solve” these pictures? It’s art! Who cares how they did it!

  69. Ramsha says:

the pictures of the chair are really fake. I mean the stand could have been really strong and the chair really light. kIts funny but its so obvious.

  70. Anonymous says:

    Just butting in here:
Why don’t we just all go down to costas and get a coffee, forget about this?

  71. Faded says:

    1) Well timed shot
    2) Weights in Pocket or Sachel underneath Jacket easily same weights hold him down in later shots. aslo Hair is waxed to hold shape in water.
    3) Weights removed, floating face down, arms and legs spread for wider surface tension.
    4) This one is actually simple, the anchor is part of some ruins off the coast of France, but weights to hold him down.
    5) Weights to hold him down, the rope is a simple nylon marine rope, it doesn’t float. dropped down with a small weight and then he holds on to the other end and pretends to be climbing a coral reef.
    6) Climbing on a ladder, in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of france.
    7) Standing on the same ladder close to the dock.
8-12) This is done with fishingline. This is a common “illusion” All pictures here are shown with the same side of the chair shown so you do not see the anchor points.

  72. FREAK MAN says:

ON CHAIRS actualy flipped picture upside down anonymous man

  73. mrscorcher1 says:

    6th ones simple
its like the japanese pool trick
he’s on a ladder UNDER the water but the water is on top of glass

  74. Elwray says:

On the 3rd frame if you look closely his reflection looks to be face up just as he is, and if he were underwater floating near the surface he wouldn’t have a reflection

  75. Elmo says:

Too far out. Those underwater shots are taken by just freediving/scubadiver just outside the frame/hidden scuba regulator. A bit simpler than building a glass ceiling with water on top :).

And being an underater photographer, I’d say the light on those shots looks just like underwater shots… Occams razor, people.

  76. Person says:

I’m pretty sure I know about the 7th one (You should to- If you watch Myth Busters haha)- They probably took a dark(blue most likely), plastic covered board(I really dont know what material) and placed it an inch or so underwater.

  77. Person says:

Oh and if you guys havent noticed already, the first one is a sideways ocean. I cant explain the sideways guy though.

You can add some images too.
