It’s been done in real life before ! I remember seeing this in OMNI magazine back in the 80’s, with two guys standing inside the crate none the less! There was a contest to see if people could figure out how it was made, ideas were submitted and as a result some came up with at least four ways possible to do it that would work

Wow. Whoever said this is not an optical illusion is quite mistaken. The definition of “optical illusion” is “an object, picture, or action that is designed to trick the viewer into a false perception”. That is exactly what this 3D rendering does. Just thought I would clear that up. =P

dude whoever thinks that this is a mistake is wrong u see the green pieces of woods are actually cut in certain areas depending on the angel the picture is shot from the box looks impossible because u see the red pieces of wood through the holes in the green

Some of the works of Escher have been crafted into 3D models that, when viewed from the right spot from one eye, look just like the drawings.

This is simalar to the 3d challk drawings. Depending on how you look at it it can create an illusion of the red boards crossing over the green broken boards.

So it IS an illusion you wombats!

That’s cool!
It is an optical illusion because the green logs are cut where the red logs pass behind them. I wish they would make a real one and not a computerized image.
