It's going up for sure, the boots give it away.

The boots are a dead giveaway. The door and the wood paneling make it all too obvious. I thought it was just a photo.

The corner of the steps also give away that is going up. There would be bumps at the end of each one.

Not only are the boots a dead giveaway but if you look at the door you can see a number on it which is facing the correct way. Nice try but it didn't work.

in the explanation, it already says that the stairs go up into an attic, so why bother telling everyone what everyone already knows?

I can see both but took me a while to find out which way was right though, the lips on the stairs gave it away, pretty cool. For a second i thought they were standing on top of the stairs looking down at them...

This is not an illusion. Whether you go upstairs or downstairs it does not matter. You can still just go upstairs or downstairs.

I don't think this even qualifies for this site, it is a horrible illusion and everything gives it away, the boots, the light switches, the shadows, and everything else too!!

When you look at the stairs, they look like they are going down, but the objects around the stairs make it obvious that it is going up.
