The Zoomquilt Illusion

This cool 3D flash animation let's you zoom in forever. I've saw it before, but lately many people suggested this to be put online, so here it is! Enjoy! Click here, and start zooming! (It's 1MB big .swf file, so wait till the progress bar reaches it's end!). You can click and drag up or down with your mouse to zoom in and out.

this is nice, but where's the illusion?
Look at this for a real "zoom"/continous motion illusion

Interesting... very artistic, yet I wonder who has the time to put into designing that.

Its kind of a loop. After some time it comes to the starting pic

Seriously. Fix your grammar. It's really annoying.

Remember: no apostraphe if it's possesion, but use one if it's a constraction if "it is."

    Excellent illusion.

hey mrmojo - you can correct other people's punctuation (not grammar) just as soon as you learn how to spell...

  9. Anonymous Pembo

    Grammar is punctuation....

what is it i can,t see it

People stop being grammar-natzis and just enjoy! If you want to know where the illusion is, its in the zooming. Aplette seems to zoom but we know that it can not actually "zoom" so the smooth movement of objects is what does it. Very nice.

However there is an added bonus! If you zoom for a good while in the picture while looking at the center. When you stop zooming the still frame will seem to buldge around the center, well at least for me I experienced that.

The illusion: zoom in for a while, and then suddenly stop. You will see that the picture slowly starts to "rearrange". Your brain automatically expected the zoom-in to continue, hence pre-enlarged the relevant part of the picture.

I've seen that before at POQbum.com.Its really cool illusion because it seems like it just starts over but it actually is just going and going and going...

Nice ! And I just discovered that if you zoom in fast and for a long time, it is like another illusion :
