This has to be one of the coolest illusions ever! To my knowledge, John Sadowski is the original creator of this type of illusions. This is how it works: just stare at the dot for 30 seconds. This is animated gif file, that keeps repeating infinately. After about 20 seconds, grey scaled image of spanish castle will appear, but as your eyes adapt to the inverted image you were seeing first, you will see black&white image change to COLOR! Amazing! You can make an illusion just like that really quickly – just get a photo on the computer, make two copies – one with the colours inverted (just open the photo in MS Paint and press Control + I), and one in black and white. Stare at the inverted one, and then the black and white one should be in colour.

This is because, (If you had at least some knowledge of the human brain you would know) the brain stores images as their inverted selves. Look at ANY picture for an extended period of time and you will see its inverted image.
It isn’t fake, it’s science. Whoever stereotyped people who believe this as “Americans”, that is because we are smart enough to understand it.
Wanna see if its fake? Video tape it and see what results you get.

Ok dude, FIRST OFF. If you have the image on your screen and just look around and then look at it you can see the image changing. You don’t have to look directly at it to see it change. SECOND, your eyes don’t adjust with the flick of a switch. It would be gradual. Not all at once, like this picture is suggesting. and THIRD. If you keep looking at it, the picture reverts back to the first ‘inverted’ image, even if you are still staring at it. Your eyes should have still been adjusted.

ok ppl… just to clear things up, it is an illusion. let me explain it… first there is an inverted-color image. then it changes to a black-and-white image. if u stare at the black dot, however, you see a real color image. after it is black-and-white for a few seconds, the video goes back to the beginning– inverted colors. if u don’t believe me, cover up the black dot on the inverted pic w/ ur hand. when it changes to the photo, take ur hand away & u will see that it is really black & white. the illusion is supposed to be that you see the pic in real colors. hope this helps.
wowww you people are really stupid …..this thing does work but, NOT THIS ONE. what you really are supposed to do is stare at a certain color do or sheet if paper than you have to look at a blank peice of paper and you will see the same image in its oppisite color in the color wheel duh.!!!! i know more then the maker and its 2007 and im in 6th grade!!!
To put the final nail in the coffin (hopefully)of this argument: It is only an inverted and a B/W. I took my video camera, and recorded it. I then FF to the point where the image changes, and rewound it frame by frame, until the inverted came up. There is no Colour Image, each frame is inverted, and immediately turns B/W.
The camera’s CCD (see wikipedia if you don’t know) doesn’t work like the human brain and eye, and it does not get ‘tired’ of a colour and produce false colours like our eyes. It will always see whatever is shown. That’s why cameras don’t work when recording TV screens, they see the refresh bars going up quickly, and don’t have a latent image like our eyes. If you don’t believe me, try it yourself. A Film video camera would be best, but a digital camera (a good one) will work just fine.

Brilliant- the colour in the b+w image you see ONLY EXISTS IN YOUR MIND!!! but as most of the coloured image can only be seen in your peripheral vision, if you try to feast your eyes on the lovely details like the grass – It runs away to hide, like a shy, timid creature…its a Little Tease of an illusion. But if your looking at the black dot when it’s multicolored, when the black and white image comes on, it will appear in color. But if you don’t look at the black dot when it’s multi colored and it changes, it stays black and white.
You guys are retarded. The picture actually changes. This is how you can tell. On the first image, there are words at the bottom. It says stare at the dot. Then the words dissapear… hmm… Even if you aren’t looking at the picture, it changes.

Ok, the problem is that most of you don’t understand this illusion. Yes, it does swap between two different pics, one being inverted and the other being black and white. That’s not the point. you’re supposed to stare at the inverted pic, and when it swaps to the black and white pic, at first it will look as if it were faintly colored. This effect goes away after you move your eyes. Most people don’t see the effect because you have to focus solely on the middle of the pic, and they have to know exactly what happens.
AHAHAHAHA!!!… Ah.. I’m not done yet… HAHAHAHA!…. Okay, I’ve explained this on the two other illusions like this on the website so I’m not going to explain all of it again. Why dont all you retard actually READ, if you can read. It says quite clearly that the image is an animated GIF, but to click a link to take you to the actual image that performs the optical illusion. TARDS!!!!
