Head on a Plate Illusion

A girl looks at her vanished lower body through an optical illusion, while participating in an exhibit named "A Head On A Platter" at a science museum in Kolkata. This one is "Smoke and Mirrors" obviously...

theres a hole in the wall behind her?

  2. Anonymous Michael

No, there are two perpendicular mirrors under the table. The girl is inside the cavity behind the mirrors, and it seems like you can see under the table because the mirrors are reflecting the walls beside them.

In this case it is not mirrors. Where they would be is panels that are painted to match what would be the background. If it was mirrors, the checkers wouldn't have the right perspective.

or she could be standing behing a table that was painted to look like a table and also has the backround on it making it look like she is nuting

    its the mirrors

accually you can see her lower bodies shadow...sorry to dissapoint....if you dont think thats her shadow then it could also be a painted box. if you look at the checkers on the left, above and below the black thing, you see that the lines dont match up. also, on the right you can see that there wouldn't be enough space between those two black checkers to have a yellow checker. more likely its the second one :P

My father does this in his exhibitions. But he uses mirrors for the box. He uses a velvet red cloth from suspecting the mirrors. Checkers are a nice way. But you should be painting them and not using mirrors. Because when mirrors are used with the checkers. You can very well find them when you move. It does not matter for a photograph taken at the right angle. But i'm talking about what my father did in his exhibitions where public experiments themselves for fun. The magic trick was supposedly known as Head in the plate. The little was able to come out with her whole body out.

Below is the bird's eye view, i drew for you people who still haven't understood.

    1a / \
    1 / \ 2
    / \ o / \
    / \ / \
    / 3 \ / 4 \

From the bird's eye view, you can see that there are four sides here. First Side one and side two are joined. and then side 3 and 4 are joined. After then 3&4 gets attached to form a diamond shapped room inside. Over this diamond shaped cavity we place the wooden ply and in the center we place the plate ("o" as seen in the diag) The plate's base is removed and the edges are covered with fruits so that they don't reveal the hole in the base and the wooden ply is also cut with a cicle hole as of the hole in the plate.

People enter from behind (1a) and let their head peep through the hole. This is all it happens. So from a lateral view, we given an illusion to the viewer as though the sides 3-4 don't exist (because we use mirrors to emulate the backgrounds, or paint them remember), and thinks that the head is cut and kept on the plate (its fun to see your members look at you like 'oh my god, my son's head.. that too, still alive and moving', when you peep in from the cavity inside.

Hope this helps. And yes faggot, we don't have lives. :)

you can see the mirrors if u look closely. why is it called smokeand mirrors though

  27. Anonymous youngandsingle

she's in a box. it's been painted cleverly

  28. Anonymous Deathmonkey7

It's quite obviously mirrors. When the mirrors are perpendicular to the walls behind them then they appear to be extensions of the walls. In which case you could go at almost any angle and still get the desired effect. it's more likely the shadows are just from behind the camera or even maybe the cameraman themselves.

U PEOPLE ITS PHOTOH SHOP DEFINETLY

  30. Anonymous wow i thought it waz scary

i dont know how u did it but im still yawning

  31. Anonymous Anonymous

Why don't people just cut dead people's heads off and put them on plates and tell everyone it's an illusion?

  32. Anonymous Nupanick

I can vouch for this, I was in one of these once. There are two mirrors under the table and behind the camera are two walls you can't see from here that look like the ones behind the table, the mirrors reflect them. The mirrors and the walls next to them make a box with a hole cut in the top you can stick your head through. Only difference is that the one I was in didn't have fruit around the edges and the walls were red instead of yellow :c)

  33. Anonymous Anonymous

She is behind mirrors that are put to where they look like the checkered walls.

  34. Anonymous Anonymous

there are two mirrors that are placed to where it looks like the walls.

  35. Blogger oban

Hey. If it was mirrors the table wouldn't have a leg, now would it?
It has to be a painted box.
