Look at the chart below and quickly say the color, not the word. This prooves how our brain uses each side of the brain for different action: your right side of the brain want’s you to say the color, but the left side insists on reading the word!

When I was little I had a large page with this on it (Mom cut it from some magazine) and I would spend all of my free time trying to do it. I finally said all of the colors around age 10 or so, and to this day I can still do it.

Took me less than 20 seconds without a mistake. I used to be lousy at stuff like that as I’m a word orientated person.

the trick to doing it correctly a quickly is to blur your eyes, because you will just see a blurry blob.
just cross your eyes and it is no problem

The trick is to not read the words. Just look at the last letter of each word and say the color of the letter.

and georgina ur right, its alot easy 4 girls in many brain tests. girls r even better at findin stuff in the frige than guys. proven. boys tend 2 look 4 the word butter writtin on sumthin while girls remember exactly what shape the butter is and find it much quicker,

I would imagine that people who are better/faster readers would have a more difficult time with this problem. This puzzle is easy for me because I can force myself to focus on a single letter and not read the entire word – but my sister (who is like a super speed-reader – an entire 300 pg book in one evening) found this to be hard.

me and my friends used to do that all the time.I was always the best one to do that. this page was the easiest one ever my 7 year old brother can do it too. thats how easy that was. any 1 who can’t do that is a looser!!!
try this with the color names written in a non common language for you, like norwegian (for me)… our brain cheats us

Women are better at multitasking because they can’t focus on one thing at a time. Besides, the easiest way is not backwards, the best way is to look at only one letter.

Well considering these are always easy for me I seem to be able to control my thinking a little better than some plus I have an IQ of 142 so I don’t get confused by whats there… still always a good test every now and then

Maybe girl’s brains ARE better. I mean, I did that with no errors in like 30 secs with only a few short gaps, no mistake. My sis and bro…well…my sis did better and even though their eyesights are about the same and she was farther than him, he still didn’t do it all the first time. But I think he didn’t understand when I told him to read the colors.

Lol…acting like a girl ( being a sissy or gay) won’t make it any easier. I’m a guy and i could do this quite easily after a few seconds. But I don’t think anyone can do it quick and on their first try. Boys are better than girls at things the same way girls are better than boys at things.

It is cheating if you blur your eyes or things like that. It just depends on your ability to focus something that you rarely do. When you read you focus on the word not the color.
Just like Archie411, I forgot what purple was called, so I said orange. lol it doesn’t say or look orange….I must be getting dumber. Btw, I did a science fair project on this. It’s called the Stroope Effect.

I don’t think I got the right answers… I am color-blind (and yes I am a girl) and all I could see was the green and blue and black and purple. Was that wrong?
try to go slightly crosseyed until you cant see the words, just the color. Read the color. easy.
